Democrats Desperate to Avoid Debate over Trans Athletes

'While the GOP digs in over gender identity and sports on the campaign trail, Democrats — desperate to retain control of Congress — are largely silent...'

(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Republicans are presenting a case against allowing men to compete against women in women’s sports, but Democrats are desperate to avoid the debate.

House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., clarified the Republican position by telling Politico that “only women can compete in women’s sports.”

United States Senator Rand Paul, R-Ky., along with Georgia’s Senatorial candidate Herschel Walker, R-Ga., are campaigning with a female college swimmer who doesn’t think she should have to compete against men.

Republicans also point out that Democrats do not hold this common sense position. Republicans in Kansas highlight that Democrat Gov. Laura Kelly supports forcing girls to compete against men in athletic competitions. Riley Gaines, a college athlete forced to compete against Lia Thomas, said, “If Laura Kelly can’t protect women, she shouldn’t be governor of Kansas.”

Even the left-leaning Politico noted, “While the GOP digs in over gender identity and sports on the campaign trail, Democrats — desperate to retain control of Congress — are largely silent.”

Jennifer Braceras, director of the Independent Women’s Law Center, argued, “The last thing the Democrats want is to go into the midterms arguing about Lia Thomas.” She noted that the Biden administration is under pressure to release a new rule mandating men be allowed to compete against girls in sports, but said, “If the administration releases its sports rule before November, then they have to campaign on it.”

A poll by the leftist NPR reported that over two-thirds of Americans oppose allowing men to compete against women in athletic competitions.

While most Democrats can see this issue will destroy them at the polls, some radicals are still pushing the issue.

Shiwali Patel, a senior counsel at the National Women’s Law Center, told Politico it must be clear that “the federal government supports trans students and will hold state’s school districts accountable for having policies and laws that exclude students from playing sports based on their gender identity.”
